How to prepare when facing a mass casualty situation.

The training is split up into different sections, including the psychology of how people react in these situations, active shooter events, looking at what has worked and what hasn’t, and how civilians should respond.

"It’s about getting you to think about how you would survive it,” Foster said. “The training isn’t going to make you survive. It’s going to give the best chance to survive.” Rather than teaching “run, fight, hide,” I will teach you how to “avoid, deny, defend,” as hiding has been found not to work!

Presenter: Erik Foster
Erik Foster began working in Crime Prevention in 2016. Prior to becoming an officer, he wanted to be a teacher and saw the police department — which works with children through programs like D.A.R.E., and also instructs the community in active shooter training — connected those two desires.

Certified to instruct active shooter training through the Civilian Response to Active Shooting Events, or CRASE School, Foster is also a member of the SWAT team, which allows him to bring a tactical eye to the position. Foster and other SWAT team members receive about 16 trainings a year he said, which helps him answer questions when it comes to different tactics.
